What ISO 17025 Represents
This certification is a deep dive into the technical “brain” of a testing facility. It represents:
The Natural Products Association (NPA) certification is the oldest of its kind and serves as a badge of “Natural Authenticity.”
What it Represents
Facility Accountability: The factory has provided the FDA with its contact info and a list of what it makes.
Inspection Authority: By registering, the company gives the FDA permission to walk into the facility at any time for an unannounced safety audit.
Traceability: It allows the government to quickly track down the source of a product if there is a recall or a disease outbreak.
What a Consumer Knows
Legal Minimum: The company is operating “above board” and is not a “basement operation” hiding from regulators.
No Performance Guarantee: The FDA has not tested the product for safety or effectiveness. Registration is a paperwork step, not a quality stamp.
Active Status: Registration must be renewed every two years; if it’s current, the company is at least meeting basic federal reporting laws.
Warning: If a supplement brand claims to be “FDA Approved,” they are likely being dishonest or don’t understand the law, as the FDA is legally prohibited from “approving” dietary supplements.
